Yes, the trawler lamp gives that warm glow and warms up the cabin too. Even at full brightness with its big tubular wick, my eyes find it pretty marginal for reading though.

I'm not any kind of shill for Alpenglow, but if you had seen one in use, I think you, especially Dan, might agree that the light quality is very pleasing. Mine aren't dimmable but they are fine the way they are. For big power savings, improved fridge insulation saved a lot more power for us.

There's also the Weems & Plath oil lamp in the galley (background of photo). That one is just a bit more light than a candle, but usable.
