We grew them (meaning Joni grew them) and it was easy and a treat where freshies were scarce like the Family Islands.

We always had filtered rain water plenty enough.
But again, we had the luxury of being on a 27 footer.
May not be as easy on anything under 20 feet IMHO. 
BTW Here's my favourite Sprout Girl
