A topic of conversation at the club this past weekend. I was surprised to hear another member and long time acquaintance talking about selling the sailboat he purchased 3 years ago. At that time "the plan" was to retire, which he did, and do the ARC. He was a ball of fire the first year, outfitting the boat with radar and new electronics, upgrading systems, etc. Now he is talking about a trawler because a sailboat doesn't do what he wants to do which is cruise canals and rivers in North America. His dock neighbor had the same model sailboat, sold his last year and bought a trawler. He gives it 5 more years, the trawler will be sold and he will be done boating. Both guys are in their early 60's. I'm also thinking about the 5 year plan, I figure in 5 years I will also be retired and I'm thinking that the boat will be gone in order to focus more time at our cabin in the mountains. It is getting tougher to maintain the boat, the house and the cabin every year.
