used when I'm anchored. When I'm making a crossing I use the mount on the bow. When the dinghy is on the davits I usually leave the motor on. When the dinghy is on deck the engine is on a mount I had fabricated that is on the side deck about midship. I use a cable mounted on the mast about where a running back stay would be mounted with a four part block and tackle set up to lift the motor. I could have used the spinaker halyard but 50%of the time it would have been on the wrong side. Actually, I set it up this way so I coud take the motor on and off myself. The side deck mount is to get the weight off the stern.
The dinghy mount on the bow supports the front of the dinghy and is located right behind the stay sail stay. I had two SS "feet" made that attach to the the mounts for the dinghy wheels that support the aft end and keep the dinghy stable on deck. They both have rubber crutch ends on them so as to not mark the deck. I have Whinchard foldable eye pads mounted to the deck to secure the stern and use the pad for the staysail at the bow end.
I always say that you can tow a dinghy anywhere but you can't be in love with it because sooner or later you're going to look back and it's going to be gone. Also, you can leave it in the water over night but the same thing applies. Sooner or later it's going to be gone.
