I use a halyard run forward to the drum on our electric windlass. I just clip the halyard to the eye on the very heavy dinghy (150 lbs.).

usually I lift the engine on to the mount (60 lb 2 stroke 9.8 nissan) but have a 3 part tackle if I am tired or there is a seaway.
