and only a couple of inches long. After the epoxy, and a couple of years, it was way bigger. Like yours, a thick "goop" would not fit or settle into it. It started out maybe as wide as the thickness of a note card at it's widest.
I wound up drilling and screwing from the side and put in bungs to cover the screw heads. After it had expanded!
Could you take the time to fill with varnish, over and over again (a coat per day) to fill it up to even with your top finish? IF, the rest of the area is secure and tight, I "THINK" the object is to keep water from getting in and doing the type of thing that the hard epoxy did to our wood?
