This was the first time ever storing with the mast up and I'll never do it again. Now that the cover is off I see a couple of potential problems as well as damage.
Both the port and starboard stanchions at my lifeline gates are bent from the snow load on the cover. I tried going down and removing the snow but our freezing rain storms really caused it to get heavy I guess. I'm not sure if you can remove and re-bend or I'm going to have to order new ones from IP........if I can. The other thing is I'm sure I will have to re-bed them from the stress.
The shrinkwrap let just enough melt water in around the mast and stays that the boat is filthy, I can always wash that off though. The big deal is that I noticed about 6 feet of discoloration on my teak toe rail (both sides) where the teak is soaked under the varnish. That must mean I got ice under the toerail enough to let water seep in. I'm sure that will lift the varnish, hopefully once it dries I will be able to reseal the toe rail?
It was 31* on Sunday when I took the cover off, but at least it was sunny. The basin at the club is still iced over, the ice fishermen were back out on the bay in force and he open water that was out there is starting to freeze over.
