choosing a pump

I agree with Paul, most of the pumps I have purchased over the years are all pretty cheezy quality. That said, there always seems to be limitations or parameters that I have to work within that limit what my selections are. In the case of the current IP, there is that sump, the pump supporting bracket and the existing plumbing/thru hull. I need a pump that has a 3/4" outlet and decided to go with an all in one design. I can see that what I have now is a separate float and pump but have no idea what that float is connected to. The original factory unit was an all in one.

One pump that looks interesting is the newish design Whale low profile unit. The downside of not having a local chandlery is that I can't really look at something before I buy it. Feeding my 5.7l Hemi to drive to Buffalo to look at a $50 pump at West Marine is not really a practical option.

Regardless of what I buy, I look at them all as disposable anyhow. They live in a pretty hostile environment. I would say the only exception to this would be to purchase a big, separate diaphragm pump, mount it remotely, plumb it to a thru hull and add a separate float switch to turn the thing on?
