It's no so unusual where the measurement isn't "critical"

A 1.25 cm line is pretty close to a 1/2" line (really .492126"). The difference in those cases is less than the range of effect if you twisted the line slightly.
However, in the case of dimension critical pieces (such as yours), it really usually doesn't work-out. As your case demonstrates in threaded connections or "sleeves",etc. it's not good.
