I believe you. I made that exact mistake with a sawzall years ago.

I replaced the cutlass on our Cape Dory 28. I thought I was careful but upon launch, the fiberglass stern tube leaked. That mistake cost me $1100.00 for the boat yard to haul-find(sawzall blade groove)-goop and re launch.
