A friend of mine wants to move up from his J35 to something a little bigger - something more comfortable for his family, with good speed and sailing ability, and sea-kindly enough for semi-offshore passages to Bahamas and Newfoundland. He wants to stay under 20,000# displacement and probably not too tricked out for long term cruising. He is looking at a Nordic 40 (which is what I have) and a J40 and asked what other types I might consider.

I'd be interested to hear what some of you might suggest. Let's say something that could be available in the $100K range +/- depending on condition.

When I was looking for a boat for my nephew a few years back, the Niagara 35 was suggested on this forum and that's what he ended up with - and he loves it! I don't think we would have found that boat were it not for this forum.
