I'm with you: In home construction, something happened around 1960, and we're paying dearly for it

today. Worse than that in this 'new' standard of construction practices, the problems crop up in as little as 15 or so years! The major culprit is water damage to windows, siding, sheathing, framing. The first sign of rot or mold on the exterior often means major-extensive damage is just underneath. It's epidemic.

The connection between housing and boats is a stretch. But I will say that an acceptance of using systems and parts with shorter life expectancy is coming back to haunt us. We accept it in our crappy cars but more expensive items like houses and boats are a problem.
