But for the cost (which I might spring for)

I'm considering putting a manual transfer switch (which various panel manufacturer's and Blue Sea make) which would be between the inverter and the AC panel on the discharge side: It would be Inverter-Off-AC (Shore or Generator/Power).

We split the AC panel so that the lighter loads can be feed off the inverter but not some of the heavier ones (e.g., not water heater, AC units, and, water maker). So I'd be essentially bypassing the inverter's output and "reconnecting" the split buss to the shore power or generator.

I know where I'd put it, but I just haven't gotten around to cutting the switch recess and digging into the cabinetry to rewire the supply and discharge. It would not take the supply to the inverter for charging away -- because I have a separate breaker for that.
