We had an article on inverters by Wayne Canning in Good Old Boat, July 2015. Just editing it made me think I would never want one of those devices on a boat (or anywhere, come to that).
Wayne drew a circuit with a big fat switch in the DC supply that you could see readily and turn to "off" anytime you want to work on the system.

- What does the battery switch do if you set-up the wire the way you planned.
