I just spent some time at the Miami show and if that is any indication sailing / cruising for the average individual is DEAD! There were no practical crusiing boats there, a few plastic day / coastal cruisers, and then boats for a million dollars or more. Standard suppliers from years and years of being in the industry are no longer showing. I didn't see Groco, Schaefer, Forespar, etc. Oh, there were some that sell those products there but the main suppliers were in short supply. Hell, even Defender wasn't there and I never say We$t Marine. The catamarans were HUGE to say the least and everyone selling them was wanting to sell time shares or get you to pay the freight and put it in the charter market.
I suppose this might be industry standard but it is from one respect highly disappointing and another makes me optimistic. It will mean fewer crazies out on the water and fewer individuals leaving a bad taste in the various cultures we visit.
