Re: They have drifted away (what can we expect) ! Dave, Denny and I went to the San Diego Boat show

a couple of weeks ago and it was exactly the same thing. ALL the boats were huge and the exhibits were almost non-existent. The ones that were showing were local businesses. I was very disappointed to say the least. We wondered through huge boats that we could never afford or, quite frankly, really want. It's a sad thing to see. Do you remember back in the 70's and early 80's, the go small, go now excitement? That's what got me involved in sailing. True, you had to learn to use a Sextant and no body would come out to rescue your ass if you screwed up but that just was part of the adventure. No EPIRB's or SPOTS to pull your fat out of the fire made you a bit more careful. I was heading across from Grenada to the VI and I was totally out of control. Way too much sail, wind in excess but having fun. Then I punched into a wave that made my mast look like a para-scope on a submarine and it took a long time for the deck to uncover. I started thinking that I had to get the boat back under control of in a few weeks the folks back home would be wondering "why doesn't he phone". It was a totally different mind set with a different type of people. Not that's that all bad, just different but sad for guys like me...us.
