It's clearly GOOD to have boats that are fun! We need more people sailing.

It's not that there aren't planning monohulls -- but they have almost no interior room ;^))).
As for comfort, the ability to take some weather, etc. -- that's a different story. I think it a bit extreme.
But, as you note, without sailing being a lot more fun and and more affordable, we will be a quaint sport -- like horseshoes :^))).
