Some kind of magical event... GRIN

OK, let's talk this over... electricity IS magic... and only some of us understand it. GRIN

Yeah that rocker switch is just different packaging... my old weber had one just like that. It "snap clicked." You could see the single spark every time you snapped it. Frankly, to ensure that I had a good flame start, I would usually click it several times, while turning on the propane... that worked and ensured that the spark existed before a long build up of gas occurred.

The newer units just click repeatedly... much like the starter on modern gas stoves... they do need a battery... or what we like to call a "magic tube." GRIN

At any rate, one is a mechanical thing, the other type is an electric thing... Neither really is "magic." The principals are well understood and no incantations are required.

Just imagine that one is like a flint and steel, and the other is like a little temporary pilot light. (neither description is accurate, but they are fair metaphors...)
