My Magma is the midsize rectangular one. The spark lighter electrode has an L shaped tip. It's been giving me fits for 10 years! First issue is that the ear that holds the electrode isn't stainless - rots away in about 2 years. Access to the screw that holds the electrode is terrible - difficult to replace the electrode. And Magma doesn't sell just the electrode - you have to buy the whole thing. I will say that the Magma igniter does give a good spark. The problem is keeping it close to the burner.
At one point I tried a 'universal' spark lighter from HD which had it's own installation issues. One thing was that the universal lighter had a small metal box that screwed to the burner to capture the gas for ignition. But the spark on this unit was weak and I had to add a screw to the box to shorted the spark distance. I worked after a fashion.
A long nose butane lighter is reliable, but I have to remove one grate and shove it under the flame spreader for it to work. Whatever it takes. No intention of going back to charcoal!
