Seemed logical to try that in the sweltering heat the other morning. Magna calls it a cooker as well in their literature(I think). Located on our aft deck the heat would move off the boat.
A large frying pan nearly covered the grill and the top closed down to the handle. Full heat,...waiting,...waiting,... About the time I was going to give up, the potatoes began to sizzle nicely. I'd say this is more like cooking on an Aga or something with an open flame. It takes time to heat the pan. But once it's up there, it holds the heat inside with the cover nearly closed(handle hanging out).
You have to adjust to the difference but it works quite well as an outside, one burner cooker. Perhaps a more even heat in fact than a direct burner. Could work well for braising with liquid in a pan. The other plus for us is saving precious CNG cooking gas(hideously expensive here). ++ Burns off the grill to clean.
And the piezo lighter fix was operator error. You need to let the propane flow for a few seconds before enough gas is around the spark(something I tend to avoid with propane). Works great now.
