Oh yeah, the second reef. You never think about it until you need it, then it's too late.
The tack for my second reef has dog ears that will reach the hooks on either side. First reef also uses dog ears - they take up less space on the hook.
Clew line for first reef is always run through the leech grommet and back to the boom. Once the first reef is in, I use a trolley line to run the second clew line. The trolley line is a loop that runs between the first and second reef grommets and has about a 6" tail. This gets tied to a spliced loop on the end of the second reefing line and allows me to pull the reefing line up through the grommet then back down to the boom. Sure beats standing on the top of a stanchion...
