Good ideas. Not exactly a universal method.

I like Peters idea of the webbing with loops. Maybe I'll go that way after I settle on a good length. The rings will fall off the horns more easily than loops. I would want the connection to stay put even as the sail is down. It's nice to tie it in before raising, lower the reefed sail and re-hoist, etc. That's why a knotted loop around the boom works well. Sometimes, you gotta trust a knot.

I think people are calling 'dogs ears' and 'lazy rings' the same thing. One things for sure, the horns will never work on my sail(without lazy rings), for the second reef and are not so great for the first.
