I have always had the understanding ferry boats have right of way, at least in most locations. That power boat got off lucky, the ferry was able to reduce speed enough to minimize damage. I saw a horrible accident between a sailboat and a ferry. The sailboat was smaller, probably around 25 feet, and was pulled down by the propeller wash. Since it was a double ended ferry, the propeller in the "bow" kicked in when the ferry went full astern. The sailboat sank in about 30 seconds.
