are used to folks watching for the ferries and avoiding their routes. That IS what I do. I work to stay out of their way.
I have however seen some close calls and just wondered what the non ferry operator was thinking.
To the best of my knowledge there are no special rules that give ferries stand-on rights. Of course certain rules do apply in the areas of limited maneuverability. (narrow channel)
And there are federal keep away laws, which further compound the situation.
