Those pumps are very sensitive to the size of the housing 
In Response To: Advice I got today from Volvo Penta suggested the possiblity of marginal R/W pump performance ()
() I know that if you put too thick a gasket on the cover they loose suction, tried it myself. But also if the housing gets worn down they just don't get as much compression in the vanes so they don't create as much pressure which means reduced flow if there are any restrictions.

- By chance a Volvo shop yesterday referred me to a specialty marine pump shop in town --they said the same thing
- Don't spend too much evaluating the raw water pump, as a new one is only $250
