I've got nothing but praise for Volvo Penta Canada...they provide fantastic service...for a 20+ year old engine!! And, of course, thanks a lot to everyone here for the insights and help --I've learned a ton about the engine in the process. David, thanks for walking me through this flow test...never would've known.
The 2010/20/30/40 series followed the 2000 series, which is what I have (model is a 2003, 28HP, 3200 max. RPMs).
Raw water flow specs in gpm for the 2030 29HP engine (max. RPMs = 3600).
@ 1000 RPMs = 2.1 gpm
@ 2000 RPMs = 4.2 gpm
@ 3000 RPMs = 6.8 gpm
@ 3600 (max) = 8.3 gpm
On my engine at 3200, I'm pushing only 4.5 gpm.
Even allowing for the slight difference in engine size and max. RPMs, and using the Yanmar specs as another comparison, it seems like my raw water pump has grown old and flabby and is need of retirement in Florida... Looks more and more like I need to deal with the pump. But, one more check of the impeller again, just to be sure none of the vanes are cracked/bent, leading to poor pumping. Thanks, PaulL for the price info --pretty reasonable price, considering it's a Volvo part.
I think I know what to ask for now for Xmas...if the elves have any in stock...
