That's good to know, in case mine is worn out. I think the shop can test them pretty quickly and cheaply, they told me.

Anyone know how "sensitive" the raw water circuit on a diesel can be to flow restriction, i.e., hose diameter, bends....
Sorry, not "circuit", I mean "system"
Cumulative effects....
Perhaps the pump is marginal...
Advice I got today from Volvo Penta suggested the possiblity of marginal R/W pump performance

I hate, hate, hate this new format!
Oh com'on
It begs the question,
Sounds like someone watches, O'Rielly!
Many of us do.
I don't find it really any different.
Those pumps are very sensitive to the size of the housing
By chance a Volvo shop yesterday referred me to a specialty marine pump shop in town --they said the same thing
Don't spend too much evaluating the raw water pump, as a new one is only $250

Hi all--here are the results of my two "bucket tests" yesterday to check raw water flow from the engine: seems low
Volvo Penta just called and gave me these Volvo 2030 29HP engine specs for raw water flow
Raw water cooling
Good idea...once I get my pump tested, and if flow is to spec, then that would point to an air leak somewhere, making
This has been informative Jud.
Another piece to this puzzle, that confuses it even more, is that Jabsco pumps says that flow rate for an engine like
It would be related to heat exchanger size Jud.
Probably, Tom --but you'd think it would scale down proportionally
No need to measure in 2 places!
I don't think this is a valid assumption.
Another Volvo shop told me today there is a cam in the pump that can definitely wear down, reducing pump output...
If you really think it is the raw water pump, then a buy a new one.
I just ordered some Permatex #18; will pick it up tomorrow. With regard to
I believe you are looking for Johnson 10-24178-2. No gurantee.
Just wondered what would happen to this upside down tree
Wow, there seems to be a hard right margin... how far does it go?
apparently, they are using a blockquote style indent
p.s. thank you for the colon

Paul --thanks a ton. I just checked and think this is the one.
Additional experience (Raw water pump)
Efraim --thanks, now I can see what the cam is. About the elbow and flow resistance...
Anyone ever heard of a raw water flow meter/alarm, like this one?
I have these
Overheating and hose restrictions
David --I just PM'ed you (via board email). Thanks for the info when you have a chance.
Jud, my vented loop is probably 12-14 ft round trip.
Cool, thanks for the info, Paul...useful to know. Any idea of hose inside diameter? I've got 1/2", same as piping on
When you open the coolant side drain, does the coolant flow out quickly and immediately?
Yes...in fact, I changed the coolant yesterday before leaving the dock. Well, it flowed out quickly after
I use suction pump to remove mine, it drains completely.
What kind of suction pump, something plastic/handheld? Just curious what kind?
SuckUp
Do you put it in the drain plug on the right side of the block, i.e., after letting gravity drain most of the coolant?
I put the tube onto the drain plug directly.
We had same problem with a volvo 2003T and
More on Volvo cooling
Thanks, Neil. I don't have an oil cooler, but do of course have the small diameter hose between reservoir & thermostat
