Rather than fork over the money for a winchbit I machined one that was bored and threaded to fit directly to the drill shaft where the chuck screws on. It is only about 1 1/4" long. It was also thru-bored to take the 1/4" left hand screw that holds the chuck on. It eliminates the 3-jaw chuck entirely. 4 sides work fine for me. Rather than spend $380 for the cordless 1/2" Milwaukee drill (plus $150 for a second battery) I got the 120 vac version and run it off the inverter. It was $170 for factory reconditioned from CPOOutlets.com. Compared to the cordless one a friend has the corded version has quite a bit more power. If conditions get wet we just use the manual handles. Since we sail the Columbia River we probably tack more in a weekend than most non-racers do in a season so it mostly gets used on the primaries.
