Actually there are gypsies for G3 chain...

I have a Lofrans Royal manual windlass. It has a gypsy for 5/16" G3 (proof coil) chain. The gypsy also works for 3/8" BBB chain. So it is definitely possible that the G3 chain is the correct chain for your gypsy.
