Here's an old boat with a "hatch dodger"
In Response To: Actually the hatch tent works OK in some conditions ()

This hatch is also for getting below(a ladder under it) on this old ocean racing boat. You can see this could be about 75% of building a full sized dodger in cost, it's most of the work. But this would be a dry hatch in most anything at anchor, even underway.
