Hi Max,
This arrangement works pretty well when sailing to weather, or leaving the boat unattended on a day when showers are likely... Had to configure a bit of a work-around with the babystay, but it still stays dry, and snapping the aft edge to the dorade guard keeps it nice and taut...
I guess American boatbuilders are simply never gonna realize the value of aft-facing hatches, overall they are way more practical, IMHO... In a well-ventilated boat, you can still get plenty of airflow through an aft-facing hatch at anchor... Really a pity no one makes the reversing hinge hatches Bomar used to make, they were the ultimate solution, but of course would cost a fortune, today... Not to mention, not "stylish" enough for today's sleek RVs...
As much as I like everything from ATN, boggles the mind than anyone would pay $200+ for something like that hatch cover...
Put that money towards a sewing machine, one of the best investments any cruiser can make... (grin)
best regards,
Jon
