Ericson 35

Took a bit of digging but I found the photo of the Ericson 35 rudder. To my eye it's not as elegant as Carl Alberg's but it does have significantly more surface area down low. I just spoke with my friend who used to own this boat. He currently owns a Cape Dory 36. His general impression is that this probably offers better control.
