The rudder in that pic is more like the one I ended up building for the 32'.

My thoughts are that the meat of the spoon shaped traditional rudder is high..where the water can be confused, the area aft of the prop slot is small and weak and makes for poor steering under power, and the area below, where the waters are solid is tapered to nothing.

It may be that the spoon shaped rudder is better protected in a grounding but....I prefer more meat down low and along the prop wash area if at all possible.
