I hear you. I don't even try to sleep.

Even with a crew, on one night, I don't do much more than rest. The problem I find, is everybody is bushed by morning on a single overnight. I still seem to be able to do it easily enough, as long as I have a solid sleep the next night. My family on the other hand can sleep like rocks on an overnight, the snoring is louder than the engine at times.

Another thing I find on this trip is how devoid of traffic, anything really, I see as I get 30 or so miles off the coast. I rarely even see lights through the middle when I'm close to 50 nm off Boston for instance, when I do they're quite far off. I don't worry much about fishing buoys out there and will motor all night with just occasional lookouts using a timer(15 minutes or so)

On the inland side though, I nearly ran over a fishing boats net last time just going below to cook lunch(under power). I don't think he saw me either and nothing came over the radio!
