Maine for the first-timer?
I'm convinced the best approach is to sail overnight to Penobscot Bay.
We'd leave the boat if weather required it
Both Toms are spot on
overnight to MDI and SW Harbor.
A bit on southern Maine
You have convinced me to stop in the area Tom.
Thanks Tom
My reference is to Junk of Pork just outside of Jewell Island

A couple of comments about the MDI area...
That's a nice summary Jim, I picked up a few ideas.
This was a great cruising guide post Jim
Indeed! How'd I miss it!
Different strokes...
All the detours are off the straightline unfortunately.
Yeah but we try not to push the miles
MDI is about 180 miles from the northeast end of the cape cod canal...
Then I'd change your plan, "a 10 or 12-day "window" to travel to Maine and back"
If the stars align we could make it from CCC to MDI in two days without pushing
That's half the fun of being on a schedule. I get a little bored waiting for weather.
Time has a way of doing that. When you're ready to move on
3 weeks, that's the best plan.
If I had two crew and a weather window
I hear you. I don't even try to sleep.
The traps are thick here too
Hahah

Ahh yes. However, before you get too dismissive
Skeg-protected folding prop
Wow, that looks less sticky than most monohulls these days.
not saildive -- conventional shaft
That's good. A bag of potatos, and you're equipped for sailing Maine.
Potatos? Don't get it
old coastal Maine folklore
Like some folklore, it probably has some historic background.
Better to hear than to feel ;^)))
Not much to worry about, you'll usually hit sand in Maine,
Love the high tide line!
I hate to tell you Larry, but...
Tis True!
Then, conceptually, Larry
I would jump across to MDI and then work your way south from there
Agree with Todd.
I've found that the start SW Harbour and move east, then south make sense.
unfortunately, your schedule is dictating your route
one other idea
Then of course, you could have someone deliver the boat up there...sail it...and have it returned back to your home ;^)
