Dry Tortugas to Isla

We left the Dry Tortugas to Isla. Left DT at sunrise, angled toward the western end of Cuba, then south of Isla across the gulf stream/Yucatan. We were following some routing advice from a paid guru.

Our buddy boat did the 90 degree angle over to the north coast of Cuba, getting out of the training thunderstorms the gulf stream can generate ... on top of us, of course. They got over to close to Cuba, followed the coastline to Cabo San Antonio as Kettlewell said and then crossed. They beat us by several hours with a Tayana 37 -- similar in size to our Passport 37. Moral of the story, do the 90 degree angles and stay out of the gulf stream's own personal weather pattern!

Enjoy Isla - we loved it. Are you in KW now? We're in Marathon waiting for the next weather window to the Bahamas, we hope this weekend!

Cheers! Jan
