We're skeered of the crunchy bits is why we prefer being offshore. We really felt pinned in sailing around Frying Pan Shoals with a northwest wind and the Gulf Stream somewhere out there to port. We would sail out until the water got to be 72* and then tack back. It was nice and warm out there for January. Anyways being pinned in even off the Florida coast gives me the willies. We left FT Pierce headed south and stayed about 2 - 3 miles offshore and I had a problem with my PSS. I had to put up some sail and get Patti sailing while I went down and took care of business. Meanwhile a squall blew through and drenched Patti and put SC on here ear. It was tense for her as it's a new boat for us and it has a lot bigger of a mainsail. I had my hands full of allen wrench at the time. Offshore with some sea room it's no big deal, we just let some sail out and run downwind with the squall but we weren't really able to do that as it would have put us on the beach. I just feel having some sea room makes any breakdown easier to handle as it's not time sensitive. It's easy to hove to or run off while you effect a repair.
We would spend more time on the East Coast but I have some family stuff that needs attention soon.
