Obviously you don't have to look up, so there are benefits if you have a bimini or large dodger. But other than that, all you are really doing is telegraphing the same information, correct?

I want a wind speed indicator, and as I shop around I see several instruments that provide wind speed and direction... and if you tie the instrument into your water speed, these can also tell you true wind.

Now as a sailor I find I look up a lot... I am always adjusting the sails... and of course I look at the windex... I can't think of a good reason to get a cockpit display for this. Maybe I am missing something.
