My wind instrument saved my ass a number of times.

Fatigue and disorientation go hand in hand. The instruments don't lie. I see it as a safety issue.
The other side of the situation is that I really don't like needing instruments. Most cruisers that have a chartplotter want it at the helm. We have ours below in the navigation station. Having it at the helm would make me a lazy sailor.
On the other hand,,, I want it available for reference when a situation gets confusing. Like wind instruments.
