The boat is in Annapolis for sale and I'm back in Dana Point Ca. not to return for another season of cruising. One of the major draws of returning to the boat was the fact that cruising isn't easy. All the physical exercise involved in just getting the boat ready to leave. Then you have the passage and all the exercise involved with sail handling, overnight passages, fatigue, working on the engine, cleaning the boat, pushing yourself because there's no option and you'd rather just sit, etc. Then you have all the snorkeling, swimming, walking, climbing, carrying, etc. and to finish it off is fresh caught seafood and simple vegetable and rice dishes along with new friends, places and experiences.
I get to the house and I feel like I'm just sitting around getting old with days going by and not much happening. Always looked forward to knowing that on the boat there would be a lot of exercise, a simple healthy diet and a body and mind that is getting in better shape.
I've got a retired contractor friend here that helps me on projects. He's 5 years younger and is always amazed on how much more agile I am than he is. A couple of years at home and I'll be the same,,, hobbling around. Then again,,, we're selling the boat because it never seemed to be the work it is now that I'm older. The past 3 years it became much more of a chore. 10 years ago it was all fun.
