I never seem to have a problem getting plenty of exercise while cruising. I generally haul up the anchor using muscle power except for the final break out, but then I haul the anchor to the roller. I haul up the sails by hand as far as I can before tightening with the winch. I walk almost everywhere when ashore. I carry the groceries back to the boat in packs or tote bags, sometimes for miles. I usually jug my water and fuel to the boat in the dinghy, involving humping around 5 or 6 gallon jugs. I steer all day most days (I love steering), which is actually a bit of mile exercise, but after a windy day you can feel it. Just bracing yourself against the pitch and roll of the boat is like extended isometrics. After a passage of any sort I always find that I have lost weight. I lost 20 pounds once on a two-week trip to the Caribbean that was particularly rough. We also go swimming a lot. Sometimes we row. We do have two small inflatable kayaks onboard too.
