Kayaks Aboard ... Usage ...
In Response To: Kayaks Aboard .... ()

We use the kayaks frequently, although not as much as I had originally anticipated. Anywhere we want to explore and see wildlife, out come the kayaks - especially good for Panama mainland rivers such as the Rio Chagres. We also love to just paddle around island groups such as the San Blas or San Bernardos (Columbian coast) exploring. Lots of times we can scout out new good snorkeling locations with the kayaks. And they're always good for a sunset paddle to a remote sandspit where we enjoy a glass of wine while the sun goes down before paddling back to the boat. They're a blast in small waves - "kayak surfing" - not exciting for a "real" surfer, but lots of fun for us.

Plus anytime we're stuck in a mangrove hiding from a norther, out come the kayaks - the photo below was taken the before a major storm blew through Big Major anchorage near Staniel Cay in the Exumas.

Because they're out of the way .... even if they make us look like the Beverly Hillbillies, I don't care. We do lash them to the deck when we're expecting wind over about mid-20's.

Cheers! Jan
