The driver wouldn't enjoy the drive from I-5 to Edmonds though and the ferry crossing would likely involve a couple of hours wait in Edmonds. The extra time to drop off I-5 at Olympis and go up the east side of the canal to PT might actually be negative relative to going through Seattle to Everett. Depending on time of day, the run from Tacoma to Everett can take anwhere from 2 hours (best case) 3.5-4.5 hours. Olympia to PT is about 2.5 hours pretty much anytime.
