you are on the outside and the WX has turned sorta bad, and the current is now ebbing and you must go through the cut to get to the anchorage a couple NMs away. You will not be able to do it by rowing. Like I said, first determine what you are going to do. If I go there, I will hunt. Therefore, a motor is a safety devise. it would be unsafe to to hunt there without it. It's not a propulsion decision, it's a necessity for safety's sake. Ask anyone who does what I'm talking about. This isn't "playing around" with the dink kind of stuff. As I said before, you haven't been there...don't make assumptions that are off base.
