Hull Speed?
In Response To: Hard to beat a Hobie Mirage ()

A 16 ft. Kayak is going to have a hull speed of 5.4 knots. After and beyond that speed and when the kayak starts to 'surf' and because of the absence of 'rocker' to allow straight paddling .... dont you risk having an instant 'sea anchor'.

I used to 'pull' my 18 foot kayak, and any damn time it went way over its apparent hull speed and in 'large/steep chop' it became quite unstable (yawing violently) to track and usually 'inverted' just at the wrong instant ... such as when gybing the mother ship, etc. Even tried towing warps from the stern of the kayak ... nada.
Im now using 'inflatable' kayaks when too damn lazy to drop an inflatable dink from its davits.
