I learned that owning a sailboat or for

that matter any boat a long time ago is that it's a write off. If you start trying to figure how much you have to spend to own it then you shouldn't be in boating. That's not saying that only the rich should be in the sport. I'm saying that at what ever cost level you decide to participate at, that amount money should be written off because sailing is an investment in and for your mind and not your pocket book. It gets worse over time. The longer you own the boat the less it's worth, generally speaking, and the more money you still have to sink into her. If there comes a time when you decide the cost isn't worth the benefit then it's time to move on because the investment in your hart and mind becomes a negative in the red column of life. Pretty much everyone reaches that point sometime. It's just a matter of when. Some people are stubborn hold outs and some people can let go more easily. IMHO.
