Thanks again, everyone, for your replies. I checked out the Porta-boat, and though a great looking solution, seemed a little pricey. I have the plans from WoodenBoat for the 8ft Nutshell, so I guess I'll give that a try again...

Initially I had been leaning toward going with an inflatable, but I gather that they tend to drag more than a hard bottom boat. Amazing how much thinking goes into what, to a normal land lubber, would be a simple issue!
