I've been talking with a couple friends about using Ipe as a substitute for their existing weather worn teak trim. One friend has dismissed Ipe as being too heavy for his Alberg 37. I can't imagine that he has all that much trim to replace for the weight to matter. I've done number of house decks using it. Aside from the expense its seems to be perfectly suited for outside use. A few years ago a friend had a cottage deck job on nearby Mosiers Island. Rather than hand lug the material he hired a helicopter. Each bundle of Ipe had to be less than 700lbs. The stuff is heavy, the bundles were surprisingly small.
