Splinters beware... 
In Response To: Question about Ipé ()
The marina at Bluff House in the Bahamas used it on their decking. Micro splinters galore! I would not use it for decking but if I used it for handrails would keep it varnished!
A few years ago there was an article in I thing GOB that described the use of th rubber decking found at HD.

- No and yes. I got it at Crosscut as decking material, nominal 1X4. Not, IMHO, suitable for handrails..
- I'm going to use Honduran mahogany @ about 3.50 / linear foot of handrail.
