  • how was the ipe to bend and drill?
    • I was careful with the grain layout. Selected a piece with vertical grain at the factory..so to speak..
      • P.S. You MUST with Ipe' as with some other woods, acetone glue surfaces to remove oils before any gluing.

    • No and yes. I got it at Crosscut as decking material, nominal 1X4. Not, IMHO, suitable for handrails..
      • I am redoing my side and aft decks this year and am considering using ipe
        • If I understand, you're going ala' Gougeon Bros decking laid in epoxy?

              • Sounds like a better plan to use something other than Ipe'.
    • I'm going to use Honduran mahogany @ about 3.50 / linear foot of handrail.
      • I used painted H. Mahog rails, storebought, and they lasted on Passage..still. No issues.
